V. MINE PLAN (2.05)
5.1 HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION OF MII~
The Trinidad Basin Mine is located in Canyon Del Agua and is approxi-
mately six miles west of the historic town of r„~iow. A trip up and
dawn the Canyon will reveal the amount of mining that has occurred in the
area. The vast amount of mining is attested to by the n~n~nt dumps,
caking ovens and railroad tracks. Tables IV-2 and IV-3 are the production
records frtan two of the underground mines in the area and further reflect
upon the extent of mining jn the area, As can be seed, tmr3arground ~nq
was the most cmmion method for recovering the resource practiced during
the earlier years.
• The topography within the permit varies dramatically between the
relatively flat valley bottom to the steep hillsides where mining will
occur. A visual demonstration of this variability is presented on the
pre-mining ~pography map, (M3p V-1 and Drawings V-1 through V-8).
7S~e mine was previously known as the Del Agua Mine and it has been
in existence since 1977. Mining first occurred in Section 15 and then
progressed into Section 22. The mine has witnessed three different
operators during its relatively short history. Ttte first permit issued
was to the Del Agua Coal Company which was succeeded by Triad Industries
in March of 1980. Trinidad Basin Mining succeeded Triad Industries
in August of 1980 and are the sole operators of the mine.
The mining operation in Section 15 was ceased in January of 1979
after a Cease and Desist Ort3er was issued to the operator by the Mined
• Land F~clamation Board in December of 1978. The operation imved into
Section 22 and operations have been continuous in this section since
