5.3 OPERATION PLAN - PERMIT AREA (2.05.3)
The previous section classified the mine as a contour mine and
the mining method as the haulback technique. The anticipated production
was put forth in Table V-1 and the reader is referred to the preceding
section for the mining description.
5.3.1 Production Methods and t+r;„ipment
The mining of both the Cass and Del Pgua Seam, will be
done by the haulback method along the contour. As stated above,
to initiate the mining sequence a box cut is made and the material
fr<an this cut is stockpiled and then used to backfill the last
cut. Rice the box cut is excavated and the coal removed the
material fmn the next cut is placed in the box cat. This
• successive excavation and backfilling ~ntinues until the last
cut is made and the coal is removed. The cut is then backfilled
with the material from the box cut. The specific overburden
handling plan will be presented in a following section.
After the coal has been removed from the cut an auger is
brought up to the base of the highwall and the augering operation
is initiated. TBM uses a twin bit auger with 27 inch diameter
bits in the augering operation. Because of the thickness of the
Del Agua Seam the seam is bored twice, with one bore on top and
the other bore belva. 'ihe typical augering pattern is shozan on
Drawing V-9. The mini,m,m rib thickness will be six inches. AS
the gal is extracted it is wnveyed to a stockpile area and then
. loaded into the haul trucks for transport to the coal storage
V-5
