AMERICAN
~ • MATERIALS
INC.
L~'il
June 12, 1982
Mr. Mike Savage
Mined Land Reclamation
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Trinidad Basin Mining
File [~o. C-048-81
Dear Mr. Savage:
This is in response to Mr. Jim Pendleton's letter to you of
April 1, 1981. The corrections and additional information requested
~• is provided as follows:
(1) Table V-1 has been revised to show the cumulative L.C.Y. as
the difference in the Total B.C.Y. removed from each cut and the
O.B. Pit L.C.Y. placed back with any (+) quantity representing
the amount temporarily stored until the last cut is backfilled.
In each pit the O.B. B.C.Y. is moved from the first cut to the
designated overburden storage area with the second cut O.B. B.C.Y.
being stored in the preceeding open and mined out pit, continuing
to the last cut which is backfilled with material from the O.B.
storage area.
(2) Field observation of mined out and backfilled areas show that
the spoil generated has sufficient swell to return the mined area
to the original contour with a negligible amount of excess material
left over. The scaell factor or 167 was arrived at by dividing
Total B.C.Y, by O.B. B.C.Y. on previously mined areas. As the
standard engineering procedure for any type of earthwork design
is to use an approximate swell figure based on prior construction
experience with similar type overburden we feel the use of the 167
figure is justified from the best information available.
(3) The original table was in error in designating O.B. ~9 as a
permanent storage area as the material temporarily stored will be
needed to backfill the adjacent cuts when mining is completed.
L
P.
