• Revegetation methods, including seedbed preparation and seeding, are similar to that presented earlier in the
revegetation plan discussion for the New Horizon Mine. Exceptions include the possible use of the grass drill
specified in the irrigated pasture revegetation discussion in lieu of the rangeland type drill and the use of cover
crop for surtace stabilization only on steeper slopes. No mulching is planned for these small areas, however,
a cover crop will be seeded as a surtace stabilization measure. Management and maintenance activities will
include any necessary repair of rills or gullies (detailed at the end of this section), reseeding, or grazing
management. Grazing management will be centered on the proper use by livestock of the dryland pasture
areas in relation to the associated irrigated pasture. These areas will initially be irrigated by water cannon for
the first 3 years to insure successful establishment of the dryland pasture. They will not be irrigated after the
initial three year period. Dryland pasture will only receive an initial fertilizer application at the time of seeding.
Additional Revegetation Measures
Shrubs and bushes are not planned to be planted because of the post mining land use. The owners of the
reclaimed land (both 1987 and 1999) do not want shrubs or bushes in their fields. Shrubs would intertere with
theirfarm activities. WFC does anticipate volunteerwillows to grow in low lying swales and drainage channels
adjacent to sediment ponds.
Table 2.05.4(2)(e)-1 and Table 2.05.4(e)-2 represents the estimated acreage of the various reclaimed
vegetation types to be established within the New Horizon 2 Mine area for 1987 and 1999 respectively. Also
included are 9.23 acres of replaced county road. Table 2.05.4(2)(e)-3 are the various vegetation types within
the existing (1987) and amended (1999) disturbance areas for both pre-mine baseline vegetation and post-
mine revegetation. Map 2.05.4(e)-1 indicated where the various post-mine vegetation types will occur. Map
2.05.4-4 shows the replacement depths of topsoil.
Revegetation Standards and Procedures for Testing for Successful Reclamation
Irrigated Hayland Type One area of irrigated hayland will be established on reclaimed land in the original
permit and one on the amended area (Morgan property) within the New Horizon permit area. These areas
occur in the southwestern portion of the permit areas (SE1/4 NW1/4, Section 6 T. 46N., R.15W.) and (NE1/4,
NE1/4, Sec. 1, T.46N., R.16W.) respectively. The first arewill be reclaimed to a grass dominated hayland and
the Morgan area will be reclaimed to a alfalfa dominated hayland (seed mix #7) as detailed earlier. Because
of marginal site conditions and shallow soils, grass hayland was chosen as the land use for the first site.
Alfalfa dominated hayland was chosen for the second site as Morgan currently has the pasture in alfalfa
• hayland.
(Revised ii/z~/oo) 2.05.4(2)(e)-11
