Dept. of Natural Resources
TD: Mike Stanton, Mined Land Reclamation Divifs~ion
FROM: Hal D. Simpson, Assistant State lhgineer~JJl~
SU&7ECP: 2lexas Mining and Exploration Company - C17.oria Z Mine
Application for Mining and Reclamation Permit, #M-84-094
Rs requested, we have reviewed the above referenced application for open pit
mining for minerals near Fairplay. 7.t7e application states that three acre-
feet of water will be needed for the operation and will be purchased from a
company which has excess water. We would not object to this provided the
company's water right allows the proposed use. 7n order for us to comment, we
would need to know the water right to be used.
the application further indicates that:
1. Little or no ground water should be encountered in the pit, best
holes in the area have been dry.
2. Zhe reclamation plan involves filling in the pit area.
3. 'I47ere are no wells within 1/2 mile of the proposed operation. The
Westerman Ditch for irrigation is located approximately 1/4 mile
south of the property.
4. No water will be discharged to the South Platte River.
We have no objection to the project based upon the information presented in 1
through 4 above. We must reserve giving our overall approval until we know
the source of water for the operation.
HDS/JRH:ma
cc: Jim Clark, Div. Eng.
