Peabo.9y Coal <br />Caripany's Nucla Mine located approxin+ately 3 miles mrtheast of Nucla, . <br />Montrose County, Colorado. The study azea enoa~q~assed approximately 106 <br />acres at an elevation of 5700 ft. The objectives of the study included: <br />1. MedS1II9TP.Rt of baseline vegetation conditions and estab7l S}IITN goals <br />for future reclamation efforts. <br />2. Selection of reference (control) plots in accordance with 30CFR <br />816.ll6 and as • *~ial fulfillment of 30CFR 779.19 of the D.O.I. <br />Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation, and F.lnforcamnt Surface Coal <br />Mining and Peclanration Operations Pernanent Regulatory Program. <br />3. Identification and measurmient of vegetation or envixrormental sit- <br />• utations such as areas of high soil selenium or mxious sods (as <br />defined by the Colorado Noxious weed Control Act) that might affect <br />the potential success of reclamation practices. <br />4. Identification of any threatened, rare, or endangered plant species <br />as described i.rt 30CFR 816.97 (b) of the D.O.I. Office of Surface Mining, <br />Reclamation and Elrforcarent Surface Coal Mining and Reclamation Oper- <br />ations Pe*+•~ nt Regulatory Program and any other applicable federal <br />or state laws, rules and regulations governing threatened, rare, or <br />endangered plant species. Vegetation parameters macnred included <br />production, Dover, fre; ,°^cy, species oaTposition, shrub height, tree <br />density, tree drniirkanoe (basal area) and vegetation type distribution. <br />This report defines all methodology er:ployed during the purse of the study. <br />' Results are summarized in tatulaz form and discussed within the text of the ' <br />report. A map delineating vegetation types on the study area is provided <br />in-Appendix A. Cmputer listings of all raw and analyzed vegetation data <br />are presented by yeyetation type in Apperclix B. A list of vegetation spe- - - <br />ties encountered during the field shir7y is included in Appendix C.
