Eight
of these are listed as noxious weeds, one as a primary selenium indicator
aryl two as secondary absorbers of selenium. Soil sarmles were collected
at two .sites suplnrting selenium indicator plant species to determine
the actual sail selenium content. No plaZts proposed for threatened or"
endangered status were encountered on the study area.
The majority of the herbaceous species in grassland and upland sagebrush
vegetation on the study area flower in early-late spring,~prnduce mature
seeds bi' mid-late srmmer and are largely vegetative in the fall. Areas
of high ~roisfi,m (e.g., riparian) may sustain floNnsing over a longer
._ period. Many of the trees and shrubs Present in the study area display
a similar phernlogy in that ripening fruits are produced by July. "
NOXIOUS WEEDS
The smst recent listing of noxious weeds (State Noxious Weed Seed Require-
. meats Recognized in the Futninistration of the Federal Sea3 Act, USDA, January,
1978) was consulted to determine wk>°ther any of the species listed in Appen-
dix Coccurred on the study area. The following noxious weeds were en-
countexed.
1. Acrropvmn repens - quackgrass
2. Cardaria ~scens -hairy whitetnp
3. Centaurea~repens_ - russian knapdeed
4.
