i
-14-
- ~ RE~iDLTS AND DISCDSSICN
Those studies dealing with the entire study area, exclusive of individual
vegetation types are presented first. These include vegetation type
mapping and vegetation species ernposition. }y3~a1;^A vegetation data
such as tree density and basal area, Dover, fra;uerxy, prWuctivity and
shrub heightg gathered in different vegetation types on Nucla Mine are
presented below: A description o£ the major vegetation parameters
ueasured and an evaluation of samplin3 adequacy concludes the report sec-
tion. Faw aryl analyzed data are provided on orn~uter print-outs in Appen-
dix E. Simnary tables are utilized in the text where appropriate.
Nhather conditions within a given year, notably the amount and nortthly
distribution of precipitation, can have a considerable effect on ~~-*~~^
vegetation parametew, especially Productivity which, during unusually
wet years, may increase dramatically. Therefore, in the interest of
• - qualifying the vegetative data base presented in the report for the
1979 9~i3 season, precipitation data gathered at a nearby weather sta-
tion are included for the 1979 gxcxrirg season a~ for the six months
preoeedi<g the 1979 growirnJ season (Table 2). Precipitation data for the
six marith period prior to the grc7wing season is irgoxtant because the
amount and distribution of precipitation durity this period influence
total soil ~misture and thus, the amount of moisture -- `'`le to plants
during the £ol3owirg growing season. .
VEL;EIATIVE TYPE [+WPPING
Delineation of vegetation types on the study area is depicted on Map 1,
("Vegetati.~ Types"). Appendix A. The total acr+~ges of each mapping unit
. sT~wm on Map 1 are eim~rarized in Table 3.
VEC~ATiCN SPECIES ODMPCSPfION
~- A listvy by life..foaa of all vegetative species encountered on or near
the study area is presented in Apperrlix C. A total of 132 species have
• (Revised March 2006) Attachment 2.05.6(2x1-19
