EXHIBIT K
CLIMATE
This azea is chazacterized by a semi-arid climate. The average annual precipitation for the
Gypsum -Eagle azea from 1948 - 1988 is 10.7 inches. The optimal growing season is from May
to September, based on the average number of growing degree days determined by the Soil
Survey for the Aspen -Gypsum Area. A growing degree day is a unit of heat available for plant
growth. It is calculated by taking the average daily temperature and subtracting 40 degrees F,
(the temperature below which growth is minimal for the principal crops in the area). During the
growing season the average daily maximum temperature ranges from 69° F to 86° F, and the
average daily minimum temperature ranges from 33° F to 46° F. The rest of the year the average
daily maximum temperature ranges from 34.1° F to 63.9° F, and the average daily minimum
temperature ranges from 3° F to 25.4° F. (SCS -Soils Survey for Aspen -Gypsum area)
