GENERAL NOTES
1) CONCRETE
Concrete has been designed and shall be constructed in
accordance with the American Concrete Institute Buii(ding
Code (A.C.I. 318 -33 and A.C.I. 301) "Specifications for
Structural Concrete for Buildings ". Section 1.3 "Inspection"
of A.C.I. 3 18- 33 s deleted entirety, see "Fi e d Observations"
paragraph. All concrete, except as noted otherwise, shall be
of stone aggregate concrete, 3,000 psi minimum compressive
strength at 28 days. All concrete in contact with soil shall be
of type II cement with tricalcium oluminate less than 5 %.
All concrete shall contain Class F fly ash. The fly ash shall conform
to ASTM C 618, Class F. with the following restrictions
Loss on Ignition, Max % 3%
Water Requirement, Max.% of control 100%
Limit alkalies in pozzolan so that the cement — pozzolan mixture shall
contain no more than 0.6 % alkalies.
5,000 psi concrete should be used if the contractor prefers not to use the fly ash
2) REINFORCING
Reinforcing is to be new billet steel A S.T.M. A615, Grade 60
except ties and bars to be welded shall be grade 40. Bars to
be welded must be Grade 40 with a maximum carbon content of
0.30 percent and a maximum manganese content of 0.60 percent.
Welded wire fabric shall be in accordance with A.S.T.M. A185.
Provide corner bars to match all horizontal reinforcing
in cast —in —place walls. Provide lap splices as follows: #5 = 20 ",
#4 = 16" or as indicated on drawings.
3) BAR PLACING
All reinforcing shall be placed in a manner so as to ovoid
displacement when placing concrete. Bars shall be placed to
clearances noted on drawings. Placing shall be in accordance
with C.R.S.I., "Placing Reinforcing Bars . The bar placer is to
familiarize himself with all details shown on the structural
drawings and shall use these drawings in conjunction with approved
shop drawings for placement of reinforcing.
4) FOUNDATIONS
The structure is to be founded on spread footings with an
allowable soil bearing pressure of 3,000 psi. See soil report
#13840 as prepared by A.G. Wassenoor, Inc.. dated January 6, 1991
for the preceding and all other pertinent information. The
contractor shall be fully versed In all aspects of the soil
report prior to starting construction. Soil bearing strata
shall be verified by the soils engineer prior to installation
of foundations.
5) TEMPORARY BRACING
It shall be the responsibility of the contractor to provide all
temporary bracing, shoring, etc., to resist all construction, wind,
earth, and other loads imposed on the structure during construction.
Any unsafe conditions noted by our office will be given to the
architect for his action. The design and installation of any
required bracing or shoring shall be by the contractor,
6) SHOP DRAWINGS
The contractor shall submit shop drawings for concrete mix
designs and concrete reinforcing for engineers review prior
to fabrication. Any fabrication done prior to return of shop
drawings will be at contractor's risk. Submit one sepia and one
print of drawings and two copies of Shop drawings shall be submitted
through the architect for distribution, unless prior arrangements hove
been made, so as to allow 10 workingdovs review time by the
structural engineer. Shop drowinos submitted without itle review
stamp of the contractor or shop drawings which are mode from the
structural drawings will be returned to the architect unchecked,
for resubmittal.
7) FIELD OBSERVATION
The contractor shall inform the structural engineer, at least 48 hours
prior to casting any concrete so as to allow the structural engineer
the opportunity to review the placement of embedded items.
8) DIMENSION VERIFICATION
All dimensions on structural drawings to be checked against
architectural as well as field verified.
,EW "' LIP
MEAN ANNUAL
 i wLL 511
NORM CLEM [RlTK
CID
OD e6
cr
/ (D
00 00 \
o `D 1i
v iv
INSTALL TEMPORARY 48" CMP TO
DIVERT THE STREAM DURING
CONSTRUCTION OF THE RETAINING
WALL.
