VECE~ATIVE RIIFFERS SPECIFICATIONS
•
Purpose: Vegetative buffer areas have been shown [o be effective in reduc-
ing on-site erosion. Leaf states in "Evaluation of On-Site Ero-
sion Control Effectiveness and Sediment Yield a[ Orchard Valley
Ptine" - Surface l,'ater Appendix - that calculations developed by
Parker (1967) show that buffer strips 256 fee[ wide will control
virtually all sediment from culvert outfalls.
Usage: Vegetative buffers will be used at, but are no[ limited [o use a[,
the following:
1. Areas where sediment yield from disturbed areas is deemed low
by Colorado t2estmoreland Professional Civil Eneineer.
2. Areas where runoff is not directed into sedimentation ponds
u
3. Areas where temporary construction nigh[ significantly raise
sediment yield.
Construction: Vegetative buffers will be constructed by planting [he area with
an approved seed mixture using approved preparation methods.
Inspection: All vegetative buffers will be inspected quarterly, as follows:
1. Visual inspection for effectiveness.
2. Photographic loQ of vegetative buffers.
3. A written log of [he depth of sediment deposited, will be kept
with ra•adinVS taken off a €raduated stake.
All inspection forms will be filed at the Orchard Valley Nine of-
fice.
