CR- -Ustic Torriorthents bouldery-Rock Outcrop compler., 35 to 100
• percent slopes (cont.) page 2
The permeability of the Ustic Torriorthents bouldery soil is
moderate to rapid. Available water capacity is very low. Effective
rooting depth is mainly 3 to 20 inches
of erosion of bare soil is very high.
Runoff is rapid, and the hazard
Rock outcrop occurs mostly as short, vertical rock cliffs, as
bouldery projections, and as low, flat exposures. Rock outcrop occurs
throughout the side slopes. The .bedrock includes gneiss and granitic
rocks .'•
This unit is used mainly for noncommercial woodland and wildlife
habitat. Very steep slopes, Rock outcrop, and bouldery terrain make
most areas inaccessible by livestock.
The potential native vegetation is mainly a sparse pinyon and
juniper overstory with a sparse understory of Indian ricegrass,
Scribner needlegrass and blue grama. Present pinyon and juniper stands
vary from no pinyon and juniper to lower site Class III. The average
annual production of potential native forage understory in normal years
is about 100 pounds per acre.
Woodland products such as firewood, fence posts, Christmas trees
and pinyon nuts occur on this unit in some areas, but the supply is
very limited. In addition, access is severely limited by steep slopes
and bouldery, rough terrain. Included in mapping are areas where
pinyon and juniper have probably been removed by fire.
