As stated earlier the final reclamation of the site is a water storage reservoir. The reservoir will be
sealed from the surrounding alluvial aquifer to prevent groundwater infiltration. Consequently there
will be no long term augmentation responsibilities. The Lessor shall be( sponsible operation)of the
reservoir and for any leasing of water storage rights
Adjacent Water Rights
The SEO only lists one alluvial aquifer well within 600 feet of the pit limit. Exhibit G-2 is a copy
of a print-out of pemvtted and/or decreed water wells in the vicinity of the Wellington Downs Site.
Exhibit G-3 is a well location map with the permitted and/or decreed water wells within 600 feet of
the dig limit. As required by the SEO, waiver agreements will be acquired from well owners within
600 feet of the pit.
Once dewatering in the area has started, groundwater levels in the immediate vicinity are expected
to drop. If water levels are dropping in adjacent wells, due to the dewatering of the Wellington
Downs Pit, such that well owners may be injured, Connell will begin to implement one or more the
following measures.
1) Modify existing wells to operate under lower groundwater conditions. This would include
re-drilling existing wells to deeper depths or lowering the pumps. All work would be done
at Connell's expense with the exception of replacing equipment that was non-functional prior
to mining.
2) If existing wells cannot be repaired, then Connell will drill a new well for the owner to
replace the damaged well. The new well will produce water of the same quantity and
quality. If the well has not been put to beneficial use prior to mining, Connell should have
no responsibility to provide mitigation.
13
