The site will be situated along a
small, east-trending tributary to Red Wash. The disposal site is
• about 3 miles northeast of the mine portal as shown on Fig. 2. The
disposal site is located near the northwest trending axis of the Red
Wash syncline which is an asymmetric, secondary fold along the
northern part of the Piceanoe structural basin. The axis of the
syncline is shown on Fig. 3. Bedroc3c of the Upper Cretaceous age
- Mesaverde Formation underlies the surficial deposits at the site. The
Mesaverde is underlain bf Mesozoic to Precambrian age sedimentary
rocks which extend to depths of several thousand of feet. Major
faults have not been mapped in the vicinity of the site, Id~wley and
others (1979). Tne closest faults which have been designated possible
capable faults are located in the Rangely Oil Field about 9 miles
southwest of the site and along the northern and southern margins of
the Uinta Atd~ about 17 to 50 miles north of the site, Kirkham and
• Rogers (1978).
