PURPOSE AND SOOPE OF STUDY
• This report presents the results of a geotechnical investigation
for the Deserado Coal Mine coal refuse disposal areas located in
Secs. 22, 23, 26 and 27, T. 3 N., R. 101 W., approximately 15 miles
northeast of Rangely, Colorado. The project location is shown on
Fig. 1, and a vicinity map showing the location of the disposal area
is shown on Fig. 2. The study was conducted in accordance with our
proposal to Ford Bann & Davis Utah, Inc. dated October 29, 1980.
A field exploration program was crorducted to obtain information
on subsurface conditions. Samples of the material obtained during the
subsurface investigation were tested in the laboratory to provide data
on the engineering characteristics and classification of the on-site
soil and rock. The results of the field and laboratory investigations
• are presented in Appendices A and B, respectively.
The report has been prepared to summarize the data obtained and
present our conclusions and reocmnendations based on the conditions
encountered. Design parameters and a discussion of geotechnical
engineering considerations related to construction of the proposed
facility are included.
PPDPOSED OJNSTRUCPION
The Deserado Coal Mine will be a 2 million ton per year
underground mine with related surface processing and transportation
facilities. Coal will be mined underground and transported to surface
facilities at the D Fbrtal for crushing, screening and washing. Waste
materials from the washing process will be transported on a haul road
• to the subject coal refuse disposal area (Fig. 2).
