beginning at the east edge of the pit area and proceeding west within the banks of the
creek until the creek hits the west property line of the SW '/< of Sec. 2, T7N, R45W.
Mining close to the west and east ends will stay back 200' from the roadway and the
adjoining property owner Excavation will continue as gravel is needed for local road
operations and as the supply remains available. Gravel could be mined as deep as 15
feet. There is no overburden as the pit will be in the creek bed.
Some stockpiling may be done at the site, but most of the gravel will be utilized
as it is mined. Stockpiling that does occur will parallel the creek bed and be at the
extreme edge of the flow area as shown on the attached map. No processing is
anticipated at the pit.
The pit will continue to operate annually. The supply is undetermined, but it is
expected to last indefinitely because of the limited use of the pit. Mining will begin as
soon as all the proper permits are obtained.
The equipment to be used in the pit area will be a dozer, front end loader, and
trucks. All equipment maintenance will be done at the county shop in Holyoke and not at
the pit site.
No water will be used in the gravel mining process. Groundwater is well below
the anticipated depths of mining.
EXHIBIT D -Reclamation Plan
The pit area lies within the banks of the normally dry Frenchman Creek. The
creek area only has a vegetative cover in dry periods. Flood waters destroy such
vegetation periodically. No topsoil will be put in the creekbed since it would only be
washed downstream during the next heavy rainfall. Therefore, no vegetation will be re-
established after the gravel is mined. If any of the creek banks do inadvertently get
disturbed, said banks will be backsloped from the bottom of the creek to the bank edge
at a slope no steeper than 3: 1.
Portions of the existing creek banks are currently grassed. They range in
steepness from 2:1 to 3:1 slopes.
If any of the banks are disturbed, they will be re-seeded. The Haxtun Natural
Resource Conservation Service has been contacted for recommendations for top soil
placement, cover mulch, and seeding requirements. Their recommendation is included.
If banks get disturbed, any top soil in the banks will be stockpiled for use in reclamation.
Those stockpiles would be seeded to prevent wind erosion.
The main reclamation plan for the pit is to allow the flood waters of the
Frenchman Creek to smooth out and reclaim said pit. This means of reclamation is
agreeable to the owners. The area will essentially be returned to being a dry, creekbed,
which is its present state.
EXHIBIT E -Maps
Location Map
USGS Quad Map
Site Map
Mining Plan Map
Reclamation Plan Map
