Where possible, final grading should be done on the <br />contour to conserve moisture and reduce erosion. Slopes should <br />j; be cut or filled so that no slope is greater than 3:1• Seeding <br />success will increase if lesser slopes remain. The land will <br />be scarified to a depth of six inches following grading to <br />provide better cohesion between topsoil and the graded area. <br />To soil <br />Topsoil will be stockpiled prior~to mining. After grading <br />is completed, topsoil will be spread over the area as evenly <br />as possible. , <br />Fertilizer <br />-~-- <br />' A soil test should be made to determine the proper amounts <br />of fertilizer to apply. Fertilizer should be applied immediately <br />prior to seeding, at the time of seeding, or immediately following <br />seeding, as applicable to the kind of fertilizer and type of <br />equipment used. <br />Seeding <br />t': Seeding xill be done shortly after the topsoil is applied <br />• to prevent excess weed growth and loss of soil by erosion. Seed <br />i will be planted with a drill designed to plant grass seed. The mulch <br />can be anchored by a disc plow with its discs set straight or a <br />crimping machine. 1'he mulch should be crimped 4 inches into the soil. <br />Protection <br />The area xill be protected from grazing and disturbance until <br />it is stabilized.
