Where possible, final grading should be done on the
contour to conserve moisture and reduce erosion. Slopes should
j; be cut or filled so that no slope is greater than 3:1• Seeding
success will increase if lesser slopes remain. The land will
be scarified to a depth of six inches following grading to
provide better cohesion between topsoil and the graded area.
To soil
Topsoil will be stockpiled prior~to mining. After grading
is completed, topsoil will be spread over the area as evenly
as possible. ,
Fertilizer
-~--
' A soil test should be made to determine the proper amounts
of fertilizer to apply. Fertilizer should be applied immediately
prior to seeding, at the time of seeding, or immediately following
seeding, as applicable to the kind of fertilizer and type of
equipment used.
Seeding
t': Seeding xill be done shortly after the topsoil is applied
• to prevent excess weed growth and loss of soil by erosion. Seed
i will be planted with a drill designed to plant grass seed. The
area will be seeded sometime between the 1st of November and the
31st of 1'a,~.
Sou ttu: attact~e~l (:0-ECS-j for ::ceding recommendations.
7•. , ttulching
} ~:.
'~ Mulch will consist of hay or straw, free of noxious weed seed,
applied at the rate of 4,000 pounds per acre. The mulch
can be anchored by a disc plow with its discs set straight or a
crimping machine. 1'he mulch should be crimped 4 inches into the soil.
Protection
The area xill be protected from grazing and disturbance until
it is stabilized. Vegetation should not be mowed or burned.
;""„_~,
_ L,.-
