Box 13
Woody Creek, Colorado 81656
Attention: Mr. Hal Clark
Dear Mr. Clark:
I have reviewed the new site for gravel• extraction. My findings of the
present vegetation include:
(1) Big Sagebrush 65$
(2) Rabbit Brush SX
(3) Buckwheat 3~
(4) Prickly Pear Cactus 3~
(5) Oregon Grape 2~
• (6) Bluegrass 20$
(7) Crested Wheatgrass 2~
The site at present is not in good condition and is far from its potential.
Overgrazing along with man's interference have declined the native plant
potential.
A native plant community would include such plants as:
Bluebunch Wheatgrass
Serviceberry
Indian Ricegrass
Needle .grasses
Mutton grass
Idaho / Arizona fdscues
Western Wheatgrass
Bitterbrush
Big Sagebrush
Snowberry
Balsam root
Paint brush
Lupine
Eriogonum
Phlox
Junegrass

Because of the gravel source located at this site it is droughty conditions.
In recommending vegetation native and domestic this will be. taken into
consideration.
The soils on the mesas are a good source of topsoil. In using this soil
as a source one must keep in mind that you decrease the fertility of the
• soil that you remove the surface of. 1,Then pacing topsoil on the disttirbed
areas a 4 to 6 inch depth would be sufficient. Fertilizer should be applied
the second year after seedlings are establislred. A soil test is essentia]_'
CONSERVATION - DEVELOPAtE NT - SE LF {,OVERNtsE NT
