Box 68 - Haxtun, Colorado 8073
February 14, 1994
T0: Fhillips County Commissioners
County Courthouse
Holyoke, CO. 80734
Subject: Gravel Pit proposed - Eldon Johnson, owner;
PTW 1/4 32-7-47
In response to your request for revegetating the banks
adjacent to where gravel is removed, I would recommend the
following:
The soil is a Wages-Eckley-Dix complex (WeE). These
soils are so intermingled that it is not practical to map
them separately, about 60$ is Loam and 40$ is gravel. See
soil description and soil map attached. On this site the
dominate grass species are Sideoats Grama, Biue Grama and
Western Wheatgrass.
The area should be shaped to a nonerosive grade of at
lest 3:1. A good topsoil of loam should be placed and
packed 6-8 inches deep. Reseed the area to a mixture of
Sideoats Grama 30$ (1.4 PLS pounds per acre); Blue Grama
308 (0.5 PLS Pounds per acre); Western Wheat 308 (2.4 PLS
Pounds per acre); Yellow Sweetcloves 108 (0.4 PLS Pounds per
acre).
The grass seeding should be done in the late fall after
*_::e killing frost, or early spring before April A grass
drill with depth bands and packer wheels should be used.
After the grass is planted a good mulch of native grass hay,
or good lean straw should be used at about two tons per
acre.
If we can be of further assistance please call 774-7153.
Merlyn E.
