_ The herbaceous production summary for the barren ridge vegetation <br />-_~ type'in the reference area is found in Table 7. <br />Similarity of Pre-Mine and Reference Areas <br />The calculated t value for total plant cover of the barren ridge type <br />was found to be 0.570. Since the tabular t value was 1.282, it must be <br />_ concluded that total plant cover between the pre-mine and reference <br />areas are equal. <br />- The calculated t value for shrub density for the two barren ridge sites <br />-- was O.fi59. Since this value is lower than the tabular t value of 1.282, <br />- it must be concluded that the shrub densities of the barren ridge pre- <br />-_ mine and reference areas are equal. <br />~ The calculated t value for the herbaceous production of the pre-mine and <br />_ reference area of 0.339 was likewise lower than the tabular t value of <br />1..282. The herbaceous production of the two sites is therefore equal. <br />ly ~ The diversity index summary for the barren ridge vegetation type in <br />both the pre-mine area and the reference area is shown in Table 8. <br />
