A total of 7 transects were initially taken in the
mountain shrub pre-mine area to document percent herbaceous cover. The
.mean herbaceous cover was 2.14 percent. Yariance was found to be 0.48
percent. The required sample size at N80 was determined to be 4.37
samples. The sample size was considered to be acceptable.
The summary of percent herbaceous cover for mountain shrub in the pre-
• mine area is shown in Table 1.
Shrub Density. To characterize shrub density, 7 transects were taken.
Mean shrub density was found to be 137.67 shrubs per 50 square meters.
Yariance was found to be 620.49. The required sample size at N80 was
determined to be 1.58.
