The Parachute or about 70 per-
cent consists of colluvium from sandstone and shale. It is moderately
deep, well drained and moderately permeable. Because it overlies sand-
stone or shale material at about 24 inches of water holding capacity is
• moderate. The Merino soil is forming in weathered sandstone material.
It is about 6 inches thick over sandstone, has rapid surface runoff and
a Low waterholding capacity.
Included are thin ledges of Rock Outcrop (RL).
All of the acreage is in native range and is being used for grazing. If
grazing is managed so that grasses are not depleted, the soil will not
erode.
(102) Perma-Hesperus complex, 25 to 65 percent slopes.
This ~p unit is on terrace and• mesa sideslopes.
