• 2. Surface Water Baseline Information

Exhibit G -Water information (continued)
Prorintrty ojOperation to F_agle Rtver Flooctplam
The floodplain for the 100 year storm event for the Eagle River has been developed by the Army
Corps of Engineers and has been implemented in maps produced by the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA). The floodplain from these maps was transferred from FEMA Panel
No. 080051 0200 C to Map Exhibits C-l, C-2 and F of this application. As is seen from the maps,
the 100 year floodplain does not extend above the first or lower terrace of the River. The operation
will only mine the upper terrace, which is located much further south. The closest distance of the
floodplain to the permit area is 350 feet, along the northwest part of the permit boundary. This
distance is satisfactory for the proposed operation and the floodplain will remain unaffected.
• Unnamed Channel Investigations jor Wzrlands & Riparian Areas
Site investigations in April of 1996 for the unnamed channel showed no flows, very dry conditions,
few indications of riparian habitat, and upstream investigation of the watershed showed that its
historical drainage area of at least 6 square miles has been almost completely cut otl'by irrigation
ditches, the County Airport and other development. The photo below shows the channel on Aprii
16, 1996. The lack of favorable conditions for riparian and wetland habitat is evident.
U
Carol Ann Permit CDMG Application 3 9
