In same areas encroachment of pine is occurring. Where <br />protected and with adequate moisture retention sagebrush occurs. <br />Slopes in this unit generally range from ~> to 5 percent (UFA <br />phrasei, however, this map unit does occur on steeper slopes in <br />park:-li4:e openings of low-lying forested areas. <br />Soils within this mapping unit area well drained with <br />moderate permeabilities. Profiles do not e;<hibit calcareous <br />horizons or any other salt accumulations. Gravel and other <br />coarse-fragment percentages generally do not e;:ceed ~~~ percent <br />within the control sections. <br />Erosion hazard due to wind and water is moderate and Map <br />unit OF has an available water-holding capacity of ~~.12 <br />inches/inch. See photo #1, E;;hibit I. <br />clap Unit FA: Sails of this unit occur under the forest <br />canopy and is the dominant soil within the area. The dominant <br />tree species is lodgepole pine with aspen and very small amounts <br />o+ spruce interspersed. Dominant understory vegetation is <br />4:innil:innicl;: this combination of overstvey and i_inderstary is the <br />habitat type F'in~_is cvntorta/Arctostaphylos uva-ursi. <br />Soils of the FA map unit are e::tensive over the area and <br />three phases predomina~re, the FAA which occurs on slopes of (:~ to <br />5 percent, the FAB which occurs en the S 'L-o 15 percent slopes, <br />
