The lower part to a depth of 60 or more inches is grayish brown loam. <br />Included in this unit are a few small areas of Forelle soils. <br />Permeability of this Yamo soil is moderate. Available water holding capacity is high. Effective <br />rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is moderate, and the hazard of water erosion is <br />moderately high. The hazard of soil blowing is low. <br />This unit is used for rangeland, irrigated hayland, cropland, and for homesite development. <br />217 -Yamo loam, 15-30% slopes <br />This very deep, well drained soil is on hill sides. It formed in loess and residuum derived from <br />sandstone. Elevation is 6,200 to 7,000 feet. The average annual precipitation is 11 to 13 inches, <br />the average annual air temperature is 42 to 45 degrees F., and the average frost-free period is 75 <br />to 95 days. i <br />Typically the surface layer is pale brown calcareous loam 5 inche thick. The upper 17 inches of <br />the subsoil is pale brown calcareous loam. The hazard of soil blowing is moderate. <br />This unit is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat <br />NRCS Soil Map Unit Descriptions -Rio Blanco County <br />57 -Owen Creek-Jerry-Barnette loams, 5-35% slopes <br />This map unit is on hillcrests, ridges, and mountain sides. Areas are elongated and are 50 to <br />1,000 acres. The native vegetation is mainly mountain brush with open areas of low shrubs and <br />grasses. Elevation is 7,200 to 8,600 feet. The average annual precipitation is 18 to 22 inches, the <br />average annual air temperature is 36 to 39 degrees F., and the average frost-free period is 45 to 75 <br />days. <br />This unit is 40 percent Owen Creek loam that has slopes of 5 to 20 percent, 30 percent Jerry loam <br />that has slopes of 5 to 35 percent, and 20 percent Barnette loam that has slopes of 5 to 20 percent. <br />Included in this unit are small areas of Lamphier loam, Rhone loam, Vandamore Variant <br />channery loam, and Waybe flaggy clay loam. Also included are small azeas of Rock outcrop and <br />soils that are similar to the Owen Creek, Jerry, and Barnette soils but have steeper slopes. <br />The Owen Creek soil is moderately deep and well drained. It formed in residuum derived <br />• dominantly from shale that has thin lenses of interbedded sandstone. Typicall}~, the surface layer <br />is grayish brown loam 5 inches thick. The upper 4 inches of the subsoil is grayish brown clay <br />loam, and the lower 14 inches is grayish brown clay. The substratum is gray clay 1 inch thick. <br />
