It formed in residuum derived from sandstone. <br />Elevation is 6,200 to 7,300 feet. The average annual precipitation is 1 ] to 13 inches, the average <br />annual air temperature is 42 to 45 degrees F., and the average frost-free period is 75 to 95 days. <br />Typically the surface layer is dark yellowish brown sandy loam 3 inches thick. The upper 19 <br />inches of the subsoil is brown, light brown, and yellowish brown sandy clam loam. The next part <br />to a depth of 32 inches is light yellowish brown calcareous sandy clay loam. The lower part to a <br />depth of 60 inches or more is very pale brown calcareous sandy loam. <br />Included in this unit are small areas of Forelle soils and Beriake soils <br />Permeability of this Rock River soil is moderate. Available water holding capacity is moderate. <br />Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is rapid, and the hazard of water erosion is <br />• high. The hazard of soil blowing is moderate. <br />This unit is used for homesite development, livestock grazing, and wildlife habitat. <br />
