Calamity Draw will contain
four stations while the remaining two stations will be located on the West Lateral Ditch.
Stations SW-N102 is located on a tributary of Calamity draw and will remain as a monitoring
point for water leaving Pond 007. This will also act as the NPDFS dischazge monitoring
point for Pond 007. The two new stations, SW-N108 and SW-N309 writ be located on
Calamity Draw. The upstream station, SW-N108 will be located just west of Lincoln Street
as it flows Cmm under the road. This station will define water quality and quantity before
i[ enters the azea potentially influenced by the mine. S W-N709 wi71 be located on Calamity
Draw west of the mine permit boundary but east of the Nucla waste water lagoons. This
station wi0 define the water quality and quantity as it leaves the site but before it is
influenced by the waste water lagoons. F.~dsting station 5 W-N101 wi0 be monitored for one
year to estabOsh a corre]atlon of past data collected on Calamity Draw.
Existing stations SW-N104 and SW-N105 will remain in place on the West Lateral pitch.
Thesc two stations w01 monitor flow and water quality of the ditch system as it enters the
• stream area of the mine and as it leaves the mine area.
Monthly flow, pH, temperature, and conductivity meastttements wi0 be taken at the six
monitoring locations to assess potential impacts of the mine and to fu1511 the requirements
for the water augmentation plan. Water quality paametets listed in Table 6 will be
collected on a quarterly basis. This table represents the water quality parameters that were
collected during subsequent sampling periods. lly continuing with this parameter list, the
baseline can be utilized to better define the conditions as the minutg proceeds. The
discharge point at Pond 007 will also be monitored for NPDES requirements.
Groundwater Monitoring
Western Fuels proposes to modify the groundwater monitoring program to include locations
directly up and down gradient of the site The proposed plea will consist of existing wells
and installation of a new set of wells to monitor the overburden, Dakota Coal and the
underburden aquifers in the northeast corner of the site, and two a0uvial wells to be located
on Calamity Draw upstream and downstream of the mine permit boundary (Map 2.04.7-1).
The upstream well wt71 be located in the flood plain neaz Linrbin Street in the south east
comer of the mine while the downstream well will be located down gradient of rho mine but
rip gradient of the Nucla waste water lagoons in Calamity Draws.
13
J
Attachment 2.04.7-5-37
