y, R IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
S-P 1 n
- "AWN Sept. 12 , 1978
To Whom It May Concern:
Why is a public hearing that primarily concerns dozens of
Greeley Residents being held 190 miles away and over two high mountain
passes?
As a resident of the area affected by the proposed mining
zoning change by Bestway Paving Co. of Greeley, I strongly protest
this seemingly hidden and largely inaccessible hearing on a matter
that is of extreme importance to my peace of mind and that threatens
my property values .
Aside from the fact the hearing that affects me and my neigh-
bors heavily is being held in a far corner of the state, there con-
tinues to be many unanswered questions as to intent of the Bestway
management, a number of unacceptable aspects of the mining proposal,
and several apparent errors in reports circulating.
Hardest to accept as a property tax payer is the threat that
the land in question may well revert to industrial zoning within
a 25-year period. This use is totally unacceptable to me and there-
fore is a major reason that I now totally oppose a zoning change that
at one time I was able to support.
The noise-level is no less of a problem. It has increased and
there is no doubt in my mind it will increase many fold if this re-
quest is granted. This is unacceptable in a residential environment
and Bestway has made no acceptable proposals to reduce this noise-
level one decibel. As it is Bestway begins its nerve-shattering
clamor generally by 7: 30 a.m. six days a week and at times of heavier
production, even earlier.
From the location of my property -- directly west of the mine
-- there is no protection and none has been suggested to relieve
my property of the wind/dust problem. Bestway ' s own plan states
the average wind is from the east and therefore my property on the
west is in the direct path of this irritant. Two members of my family
suffer from allergies in the summer and it can be readily seen that
this will only intensify that problem for them.
There are several other points in the Bestway plan that seem
merely to be fogging the issue but I will not go into them at this
time. I will merely say that from all that I have seen, heard and
from discussions with other area residents to date, it is my opinion
that not only is Bestway ' s current plan a great deal of smoke being
blown in the homeowners ' faces , but there seems to be little intention
of the company living up to much of this plan.
