1 ~ ~ 3
F,XHIRIT D (Revised 4-25-73)
For 29 years (19?8-1957) limestones were supplied from
several of the upper bands im mediately north of the plant
and
uarried northward about Pl
nt m
dific
ns
3/4 mile
ti
q .
a
o
a
o
(1956-5r) required limestones with a minimum of kerogen,
namely all of the A-band (14 ft. avg. thickness) and 10
t.o 12 feet of the overlying B -band (fi0 ft. avg. this}:Hess).
A-band material economic al to remove proved to Ye three
' dragliiie cuts with the excess B-band overburden moved west-
' ward successively as each A-b and cut was removed. See the
typical r_ross-section sk.e+.ch of this quarry on the pre-
' cedir~R; pal{e. Ar this A-band quarry advanced northward.
increased haul distance made it economical to recover more
' A-band from a fourth cut in minimum overburden areas.
Overburden from this fourth cut is moved east. on top of
C-band and/or west into the worked out quarry.
In llovember• 1976, Ideal's Board of Directors approved
an expenditure to install a grate preheater kiln at the
' l3oetLclier pLinL which will be one of the most energy ef-
ficient in the world. Most of the C and E-bands are
' chemically suitable. The kerogen content of these lirue-
' stones twill enhance energy efficiency. Appreciable re-
serves of these materials are present including previously
' disturUed 1928 to 1957 quarry areas. The new kiln will
involve a modest increase in quarry output from 550,000
to 800,000 Inns oC limestone per year.
