2
• of regraded land. Yet, revegetation itself cannot be successful without
site stabilization and proper management of surface water hydrology.
A systematic classification of the physical and hydrologic character-
istics of regraded surface mined land in Colorado had not been attempted.
Research Objectives
The goals of this study include utilizing data from physical and
hydrologic characteristics of regraded surface mined land throughout
Colorado to estimate potential soil loss under a range of climatic,
edaphic, and other manageable conditions; and to provide a framework
for planning future reclamation activities. The results are summarized
by coal regions and coal fields to determine whether any specific con-
• clusion can be made with respect to the soil loss potential of regraded
mined lands within regions and fields. Additionally, the extent of
influence of each of several major physical characteristics on infil-
tration rates is determined.
•
