Generally the stormwater flowing across this property will be
intercepted by the Swan River. It will not reach the mining area
to cause any erosion. The piles of aggregate being removed from
this site are of such large sizes that any rain water falling on
the site would flow through the piles and infiltrate into the
ground before causing any erosion or sediment problems.
Internal drainage from the mining area will be contained by a one
foot berm on either side of the aggregate piles next to the river.
This berm will restrict most runoff from flowing directly into the
river.
Oil and grease occur mostly from equipment stored on-site and fuel
storage. The operator will have an approved Materials Containment
Plan in place for all above ground storage of fuels. No
underground storage of fuel is planned. In addition, equipment
will be stored in one central area. Oil and grease will be
controlled through maintenance of equipment and the use of drip
pans for oil leaks prior to repair. Discharges from the property
are required to meet the standards of the NPDES permit. All waste
oil will be hauled from the property and disposed of at licensed
facilities.
A Colorado Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (CPDES) permit
for stormwater will be obtained for the project prior to beginning
operations at the site.
Wetlands
The edges of the river could be classified as jurisdictional
wetlands. No mining or filling will occur in these areas,
therefore, no Section 404 permit from the U. S. Army Corps of
Engineers will be needed.
G-3
