eastward and northward across the rn ~~ertl in a rectangular
pattern (Plates I, II, and III). The general drainage 's
in a northeasterly direction. This portion of the site is
separated from normal flows of the Scith Platte River by
a dike which extends across the southerly boundary and along
the west bank of the South Platte River. The irrigation
laterals collect at a culvert which flows under Henderson
Woad at a location approximately 900 feet west of the bridge
over the South Platte River. The culvert drains into a low
area located north of Henderson Read which drains north-
easterly into the channel for Brantner Gulch.
North of Henderson Road, Brantner Gulcli is conveyed in a
concrete lined channel which flows under the r~~d to the fairground G.
Brantner Gulch flows along the south and east skies of a
levee and joins the South latte River at a location furti.~r
north. "he ground is relatively flat any drains in a
northeasterly direction. This portion of the site is
separated from normal flows of the Souttt Platte River by a
levee which e: tends along the river's ~•:est bank.
DRAINAGE DURING MINING ANf RECLAMATION
','he site will be ~,~,n~ ' in six stage.; over a 10 .0 15
yeas rtriod. After reclamation, two iafes will remain on
the mining site 'Figure C). Excavation of the area south
of Henderson Road will be accomplished in five stages;
the area north of the road will be mined in one stage.
Reclamation will begin as soon as practical after completion
of each stage and will involve sculpturing ~~f lake shore
and planting of vegetation.
Tributary Areas
•Tributary areas including Brantner Gulch and the local
area east of it, and the South Platte River will remain un-
changed by the mining aid reclamation operations.
Flood Plain
E:.~.avation of the area south o' ienderson Road will
affect both the flood plain and floudkaq limits. Modification
of these limits will be negligible clu~i:i., the early stages
but become more pronounced as er;c~iv~~tion proceeds. Henderson
Road will continue to control the °lood plain elev:rtions
immediately upstream. As excavation proceeds, the lake will
control more and more of the everbank flood profile which
will become relatively flat. The rlood plain and floodway
limits will. begin to generally follow t!7c~ western ban}: of
the lake. At the southern end of t;ic lal:~ the f.lr 9 plain
and floodway limits will merge with their exiatiny cimits. It
is recommended that the top of the lake'; south enbankment
he maintained 200 to 400 feet or mor<~ :orth of the southerly
property line.
