' MITIGATION OF IMPAC'T'S
Quantity of Water Resources
Water historically used on the mining site
will partially offset stream flow depletion resulting from
future water use. Adams County owns 11.5 shares of the Lower ~„
Clear Creek Ditch Company, one share of the Co or-9o Ag- ~~
ricultural Ditch Company, an shares of tt,e Brantner /J~A'''~.~
Ditch Company. The water yieldeu by the shares from these (~r'a1j0~
three ditch companies have been used in past years to irri-
gate 371 acres on a mining site. The total amount of water
consumed on the property k~as been 840.08 acre-feet annually
(see Appendix A. SVater Rights Evalua rt on).
To ensure that an adequate legal suf~ly of water is
avrilable to irrigate the grass and schrubs i~, the park
water from the two ditches and the effective precipitation
from land irrigated by the wells and the dry grasslands Drill
be used to balar.::c future water use. The.l~-;=~-acre-f?et ~y27.`CaJ
of water that will be consumed under future conditions will
be mitigated by 840.08 acre-feet of watt ghat has historically
been used on the property (see Appendix B. A~ater Balance).
The difference in water uses is nacre-feet annually..rg7.P7
Tliis is the amount of wat~vanorated annually from the
lakes•
Water from the Brantner an,] the Lower Clear Creek ditches
will not be used tQ cover the evaporation of ~uarf+r From 1t;P
acres of open .lake surface. Evaporation (Difference between
historic and future water use) Lrom the lakes amounts to
yy,yz;~~ acre-feet during the months of April through October
~GB18 and-~}9-g--•}f acres-feet for the months of November through
March. These depletion rates are eyui.valant to t@--~}, cfs /mss'
during April through October and p.,~6 cfs from T!ovember
.rough March. The impact of the flow depletion oil the
South Platte River is negligible; no mitigation of the evap-
oration loss is planned.
Ground Plater Level Drawdown
There will be no impact from raising or lowering the
water table throughout the mining prop~.ty. Irrigation and
domestic wells in the vicinity of the property are located
at distances great enough so as not to be significantly affect-
ed by the lowering or the raising of the water levels. The
wet level in the domestic. well ir. the N?V, of the NE; of
Section 39 will be r,';ed appro}:imately 3.U feet above the
historic levels. The historic water levels in the flood
_"in have been approximately 10 feet beneath the land surface.
Raising the water level 3.U feet in the well will not affect
the performance of the well. The depth to water in the well
after reclamation will be ~.0 feet. ?•:ater levels in the
-19-
