Rule 6.4 Topsoiling
a. A volume of approximately 18,000 cubic yards has been
determined to be satisfactory as a growth medium. Topsoil
existing on the site is of very poor quality and is not
stockpiled. The growth medium will be applied to prepared
areas as it is removed from the next working area. The
i mining, and leveling operation will include dispersing this
material a minimum of 4". Existing vegetation prevents wind
' or water erosion until redistribution.
b. A11 woody vegetation has been removed from the site during
' previous grubbing operations.
c&d. If it is determined in the future that topsoil stockpiles
will remain for a long enough time period that would allow
' vegetation, a fast growing cover will be planted. The type of
cover will be as advised by the local Soil Conservation
Service Official.
The location of designated stockpiles will be in any adjacent
area that will not be mined and is not in the way of any
' mining operation. These areas have been included in the total
acreage of the affected area and will be reclaimed in accordance
with the total reclamation plan if used.
e. Overburden will be properly placed on graded slopes to insure
stability. No heavy textured soil surfaces are anticipated.
' f. The quality of the medium used for topsoil is discussed in
Exhibit T.
' g. The growing media will be replaced evenly throughout the
reclaimed area. Fertilizer will be applied if found necessary.
See next Section for type of revegetation anticipated.
' h. Vegetative waste piles have been removed from the area.
Rule 6.5 Revegetation
' a. Revegetation is a part of the reclamation plan. After back-
filling, grading and leveling, seeding will be initiated at
the beginning of the first growing season after mining is
completed in each area. A11 slopes will 6e seeded by broad-
casting with: the following mixture:
Switchgrass .5 lbs.jacre
' Alkali Sacaton 1.3 lbs./acre
Western Wheatgrass 4.0 lbs./acre
Yellow Sweetclover .7 lbs./acre
'.
