Overpressure Conditions
One of the most serious conditions encountered is an overpressured
trt~NtM~JSiyr system. Normally, this will be caused by a :r~al-
functioning regulator or erroneous oper-.:ion of a valve.
Normally when ~; system is overpressured, notification of the
condition will be received either by actuation of an alarm, a
relief valve blowing or by customer notification that a pilot
or burner is noisy, or a gas leak. When calls of this type
• are received, a serviceman or any other qualified employ=_e vrill
be dispatched immediately to investigate the reported condition.
After an overpressured system is confirmed, the follo••iina steps
should be taken:
a. Dispatch an employee to each regulator station in tr;e af-
fected area as quickly as possible. Have each e::,plo;•ee
report to the control center the outlet pressure found at
each regulator. At this time, consideration should ~~
given to isolating a section of the distribution system.
b. Normally, the regulator causing the overpressure condition
will be feeding unusually heavily and a)] otl+er re;;;letors
in the system may have automatically shut off. :;hen an
• employee reports a regulator feeding heavily and the outlet
-16-
