Hocker Construction Gravel Pit
Deair Sirs;
I am an adjacent landowner to the proposed Hocker Gravel Pit, located directly to the south and
sharing a common boundary of %. of a nrile.
After reading the narrative l~believe that there aze several points that need to be clarified.
1. The area was. characterized as industrial /commercial in nature which is not true. The area is
rural residential /agricultural. There aze 6 homes in close proximity to the proposed operation.
All the homes being located to the east of the proposed operation, in the path of prevailing winds.
The Gosney Pit, The SUIT Jefferson Pit and La Plata County gravel operations cited in the
narrative aze located from 1 to 2 miles to the northwest of the proposed operation. Agricultural,
rural ranchetts and homes are the more dominate characteristics of the azea.
2. I.a Plata County road 32I is dangerously narrow and has severe curves leading up the ridge tap
location of the proposed operation.
3. The ridge top location is also of concern because of the visual impact. La Plata county has
existing regulations regarding "ridge-lining that address this impact ." (Copy attached)
Finally, of a more personal concern, my ranching and farming operation is in the process of being
certified organic by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. A certified organic operation
requires a `buffer zone" b_ etween itself aad sources. of contamination, such as the proposed gravel
pit:' I am requesting that in the event of approvai,~the graves operations come no closer than a %a
.mile to,tstY ProP,~Y ko~dazY• . , _
Richard S.
