~,
To Whom It May Concern
c/o The Mined Land Reclamation Board
We, who have signed below, are the neighbors surrounding the
Three Bells Ranch, Some of us have lived here over 40 years, some
only a few. All of us, however, are deeply concerned about this
project, it's size, and the impact it will have on our properties and
also the future of our farmland. Developers of Fort Collins are gobbling
up a large portion of farms in this area, and although this does not
pertain to the actual mining permit being requested, I'm sure each one
of you has been sadly touched by the things you've seem happen to some
piece of ground you used to play in, or just drive by on a Sunday after-
noon. I would like you to keep in mind that right now the Three Bells
is one of those beautiful quiet places. This brings me to addressing
specific grievances.
#1. Noise Pollution. I, myself, will be back-to-back with the
operation, I have enjoyed the quiet country, and would like to continue
to do so without listening to ding-dings of bells from large machinery
or also the rumbling of trucks one-half mile away. This also leads to
#2. Air/dust Pollution. The roads these trucks will be using
were ordered to be paved. This, to my knowlege, is still a large bone
of contention involving the County Commissioners and is not to be settled
until at least June. The county roads are one thing, but what about the
roads leading all through this project, Our Winds are for the most part
from the northwest. Looking at your map, Lyou will see that there are
several of us to the southeast that are going to eat and wear a lot of dirt
blowing our way from inside the Three Bells' boundaries,
#3, Property Values. A few of us paid as much or more for our
farms as did Mr. Shields and Company. To my knowlege no one at this
point plans on moving or selling. Nevertheless, if they did, who would buy
a home next to a large gravel pit operation without expecting it to be
discounted?
#4, Water, (which probably should have been #1). This is also a
very large concern. I paid $2000, two years ago to have an old well
replaced. I do not want anything to happen to that water level. For the
record, I am siding with the Irrigation Compar, ies.
#5, Last, but not least, is the wildlife on this farm. It seems to
me that you folks work in conjunction to some effect with the conservation
people. There are approximately 15 head of deer who roam around the
area. I've seen several hawks, one eagle, one coyote, and until the gas
leak a few weeks ago, hundreds of ducks and geese. I believe the owners
were aware of the latter as they rented their land to the American
