- 3 - October 29, 2007
Planned operations will not create any additional greater than 2H:1V slopes
than already existent at the site. Most existing slopes and steep faces would
actually be stabilized and reduced by the proposed activities as the weathered rock is
pulled down and removed. As the mining progresses west and north material from
above the 1.34 acre operation area the rock would be fed down-slope onto the
west-side of the Operations Area to be further processed, stockpiled or loaded for
transport as boulder or rip-rap material. Current areas above the road are very steep
and will not be mined accept in relation to requests b}~ Moffat County fox some
future limited rock mitigation/rock-fall abatement.
6. The applicant agrees with the DRM&S recommendation to add the following shrub
species to the current recommended DRM&S seed mix: Wyoming Big Sagebrush,
Skunk Brush, Sumac, Sexviceberry and Chokecherry. The seed mix to be used by the
applicant for topsoil stockpIle stabilization will be the recommended seed mix (brass
species) proposed for the fmal reclamation less the suggested shrub species
7. Soil amendments will be added to salvaged top-soils and any crusher fines to be used
as topsoil. Compost material and limestone will be added to increase organic content
and for pH adjustments. Topsoil and crusher fines considered for topsoil will be
stockpiled and seeded for stabilization for future use in site reclamation.
8. The #5 Comment on the Exhibit E -Mining Plan Map about the "anticipated
limited additional disturbed area....etc,...is simply a reference that out of a Total
Permit Area of 8.14 acres only an approximate 1.66 acres will be NEW
disturbance....1.34 acres has already been disturbed and reclaimed. The 1.34 acre
area will be disturbed again...as it... or, rather the flatter portions of it, will be used
as the operations area. This a ves an approximate total of 3.0 acres that map be
disturbed and require reclamation. Some upper areas are rock now (pre-mine) and
will be bedrock out-crop and difficult to seed (post mine). The operations area
would be reclaimed as before and would resemble the current pre-mine conditions at
the site. The reclaimed slopes and relative site topography will also be similar to the
current conditions at the site as the weathered rock material is removed to the
bedrock.
9. The applicant notes the Division's determination as to the rock t}*pe in the outcrop.
The Applicant looks forward to the final DRM&S the approval of this application Please
contact me if you have any other comments or questions at (719) 655-?709. Thank you.
Regards,
- ~~~~~
Timo M. canlon
Geologist
