be similar in soils, slope, intended use, and species composition to the
,.. proposed Martinez reclaimed dryland pasture.
5.0 PERMIT STIPULATION X16
The woody plant density standard for the Martinez Strip Mine is
based upon the December 10, 1981 correspondence to Mr. Al Whitaker to
Mined Land Reclamation, provided in Attachment 4. After reviewing the
past permit, the landowner was satisified with the 60 shrubs per acre
which were proffered (Attachment 3). It is the belief of Perma and EMS
that the 1000 stems per acre clumped over 1/3 of the acres occurring as
rangeland after reclamation can be achieved by a variety of methods,
including:
o Planting (Table 19c),
o Replacement of topsoil,
0 Seeding bulk seed (Table 19a),and
o Pioneering from adjacent stands of woody species.
~ ~ The stocking rate listed first is consistent with the landowner's
request. The second listing would allow for subsequent plantings should
the initial number of 60 prove inadequate when coupled with all of the
other woody plant establishment measures to achieve the 1000 stems/acre
over 1/3 of the acres.

•
38-30
