•

The massive Twentymile and Trout Creek sandstones con-
stitute the most significant water bearing strata in the general
area. .Interbedded smaller sandstones and coal strata constitute
a less significant water resource throughout the area. Alluvium
of the Yampa River and Williams Fork provides locally variable
quantities of water.
The water in the principal streams of the Yampa River
basin is suitable for roost domestic and agricultural uses. Very
few of the perennial streams at any given time contain water
whose concentrations of constituents exceed the maximum ac-
cepted limits for domestic use (USGS-1965) . The waters of the
emphemeral streams of the adjacent area are typically of a mixed
sulfate or sodium-magnesium-sulfate types and are high in total
dissolved solids. Their suspended and dissolved solids concen-
trations vary directly and indirectly respectively with stream
flow.
I Quality of ground water from the marine shales of the
adjacent areas is poor. Median total dissolved solids concen-
tration for the Lewis Shale and Mesaverde Group which outcrop
throughout the adjacent area are 4002 mg/1 and 1000 mg/1,
respectively.
The Response to part 2.04.7 provides more detail regarding
water resources within the permit, adjacent and general area.
•
