MINING PLAN EXHIBIT D (CONT)
product unless additional soil is needed for reclamation. If that
is the case some will be salvaged and saved for use in reclamation.
The soils have no unusual qualities and are marginal for
agricultural purposes because of the limited growing season and the
topography of this site. Descriptions for each soil are part of
the NRCS report that is in EXHIBITI/J of this application. These
descriptions are fairly consistent with what is found on the site.
Detailed information on current vegetation is also provided.
SITE INFORMATTON
Of the 94.14 acres ± in the permit; 81.28 acres ± are to be
mine, and 13.26 acres t will be undisturbed areas in the drainages
on the northeast, and northwest corners of the mine or in setbacks
along the permit line. No water surface area will be exposed since
this is a dry mine. Please refer to the MINING TIMETABLE on page 10
for the estimated acreage of each area associated with the mining
plan for this operation. The revegetation plan and methods used in
each area during reclamation are discussed in EXHIBIT E - RECLAMATION
PLAN.
Sufficient quantities of soil will be available to reclaim the
disturbed lands to their present condition. The soils in this area
may not be of the highest quality, but those salvaged and replaced
will represent what is there now. The topsoil stockpiles will be
located around the mine area on the final floor to reduce the haul
distances when reclamation starts. See the RECLAMATION PLAN MAP-MAP
EXHIBIT F for the approximate location of areas discussed in this
text.
This quarry will be operated year-around, weather permitting,
as a specification aggregate supply for the companies use or for
sale on the open market. During the winter months operations will
mostly be removal of stockpiled material produced during summer.
In some years the mine may be closed for as many as 120 days due to
inclement weather, i.e. heavy snow cover.
it is expected that the Cottonwood Quarry will be mined as a
single staged operation. Mining will begin in the south central
part of the site on a bench that exists above the county road.
For the first few years mining will progress from this level to the
north. Eventually this bench will be lowered until it reaches the
same level as the county road. This will mean that in the begin-
ning mining will work from the start point to the north creating
the upper part of the working face. Then when enough room is
available to set the processing plan in the mined area the starting
5
