Section 816.100 Continued.
• material from the north end of the overburden stockpile to bring the
existing backfill in the northern end of the 720 Pit to grade.
Approximately 750,000 BCY were required to establish final grade in the
north end of the 720 Pit.
Total overburden stockpile volume was approximately 7.5 million BCY in
April 1989. Between April 1989 and April 1990, approximately 400,000
BCY of material were moved from the overburden stockpile to the 720 Pit.
With dozing of approximately 350.000 BCY into the 720 Pit during the
next 1.0 to 1.5 years, and movement of approximately 750,000 BCY into
the north end of the pit during the following 2.0 to 2.5 years.
approximately 6.0 million BCY remained in the overburden stockpile upon
completion of mining in Pit 1.
Upon completion of mining in Pit 1, available equipment as well as an
expanded fleet of leased equipment was dedicated to final backfilling
and grading of the 720 Pit and Pit 1. Kerr Coal established backfill
dumps in the north, central, and southern potions of the 720 Pit to
• facilitate final backfilling and minimize haulage distances. Backfill
placement and final grading resulted in final slopes not exceeding
3H:1V.
With approximately 6.0 million BCY remaining in the overburden stockpile
upon completion of mining in Pit 1, the existing equipment fleet would
have completed backfilling of the 720 Pit in approximately 6.0 years at
a rate of approximately 1.0 million BCY annually. Therefore, completion
of backfilling of the 720 Pit would have required a total of
approximately nine years and would have been completed in 1999.
Given that Kerr elected not to develop additional reserves beyond Pit 1.
backsloping and final reclamation of the northern portion of Pit 1 was
initiated in July 1993. Backfilling, backsloping. and final grading
consistent with the approved reclamation plan were completed in January
1994. In order to resolve outstanding AOC issues, Kerr has committed to
complete supplemental backfilling in the Pit 1 reclaim area. Kerr
currently plans to complete supplemental backfilling during the 1995
field season.
)L.3ISECTION.816
9:12em WP51lcmc 816-124aaaaaaaa Revised 01/30/95
