Section 816.97(d) Continued.
AlteinatiVe Land Us@s
All lands disturbed by mine related activities will be returned to
their premining land use. No changes will be made with respect to
the premining land use patterns described in Section 816.133.
•
Section 816.99 Slides and other damage.
(a) An undisturbed natural barrier shall be provided beginning at the
elevation of the lowest coal seam to be mined and extending from the
outalope for such distance as map be determined by the regulatory au-
thority as is needed to assure stability. The barrier shall be retained
in place to prevent elides and erosion.
All mining pits have been designed based upon recommendations by
CTL Thompson, Inc. Analysis of Pit Wall Stability included as
Exhibit 43, to this application. The highwalls on either side of
the pits have benches of undisturbed overburden to prevent slides.
(See: Figure 32, Typical Pit Cross Section.) All highwalls are
stabilized by continual backfilling of the mined out pit as con-
temporaneously as possible with mining operations as discussed in
the operations plan set forth at Section 780.11. As more fully
described in 780.21 and 816.46, drainage control facilities will be
installed and maintained outside the pit and highwall area to
control erosion and runoff from the permit area. Any drainage and
runoff which will occur inside the open pits will be retained
within them because the pits will be topographically lower than the
surrounding undisturbed area. Refer to Figure 33, Typical Stesdy
State Pit and Figure 32, Typical Pit Cross Section.
816-122
