Critical habitat for the Colorado River <br />endangered fishes has been designated in Colorado in the Gunnison River below Delta (Fish and Wildlife <br />Service, 1994), downstream of the project area. <br />The following species, listed in Table 3-1, Threatened, Endangered, Candidate and Sensitive Species, <br />have habitat in the LBA tract area. <br />Bald Eagle. Bald eagles in the contiguous U.S. were listed as endangered in 1967 (Fish and Wildlife <br />Service, 1967) because of steep population declines. In 1995, bald eagles were down-listed to threatened <br />after substantial recovery (Fish and Wildlife Service, 1995). Future recovery has led to bald eagles being <br />proposed for de-listing in 1999 (Fish and Wildlife Service, 1999).
