Among federally listed or candidate species evaluated, no populations or critical habitat exist in the LBA tract area for boreal toad or the Colorado River endangered fishes. Critical habitat for the Colorado River endangered fishes has been designated in Colorado in the Gunnison River below Delta (Fish and Wildlife Service, 1994), downstream of the project area. The following species, listed in Table 3-1, Threatened, Endangered, Candidate and Sensitive Species, have habitat in the LBA tract area. Bald Eagle. Bald eagles in the contiguous U.S. were listed as endangered in 1967 (Fish and Wildlife Service, 1967) because of steep population declines. In 1995, bald eagles were down-listed to threatened after substantial recovery (Fish and Wildlife Service, 1995). Future recovery has led to bald eagles being proposed for de-listing in 1999 (Fish and Wildlife Service, 1999).
