WATER RESOURCES
' General
The mining site lies between Boulder Creek and the Godding,
' Dailey and Plumb Ditch. Boulder Creek flows in a northeast
direction at the eastern edge of the site and the ditch flows
along much of the western site boundary. A 14 acre lake on
' the property is a result of previous gravel mining.
Boulder Creek has its headwaters near the Continental Divide
in the mountains above the city of Boulder. It is a live
' stream year around with a total tributary area of about 440
Square miles. Over half the drainage basin is in the mountains .
Creek flow ranges from a low of 5 cfs in the winter to 1000
' cfs during spring and summer runoff, when approximately 75%
of the average annual flow occurs . Peak flows are regulated
' to some extent by Barker Reservoir, 12 miles upstream from the
city of Boulder. Boulder Creek is a heavily over appropriated
stream. Much of the flow in the latter part of the season is
controlled by upstream uses.
Dewatering
' Since the gravel is to be mined dry , a dewatering trench will
be excavated by backhoe around each area before it is mined.
Groundwater which seeps into the trench will be pumped into
Boulder Creek. The pumping will be monitored under NPDES permit.
1
Dewatering will lower water levels of groundwater in
' G-1
