2004 Geologic Hazard Field Observations
South of Divide Mining Area
•
2.0 OVERVIEW OF FIELD GEOLOGIC STUDIES JULY 12-15, 2004 AND OF
PHOTO-GEOLOGIC STUDIES AUGUST 8-15, 2004
The author's personal 4-wheel drive vehicle worked efficiently to access the field azea and to
traverse the drill roads. Observations regarding geologic and potential mining conditions in the
South of Divide mining azea azound Minnesota Reservoir were made in conjunction with those
of the Apache Rocks and Box Canyon mining areas and the West Flatiron Lease area.
Most of the South of Divide mining azea was studied by analyzing the recently acquired high-
resolution aerial photographs of the azea in stereoscopic pairs (West Elk Color Aerial
Photographs, approximate scale: finch = 1,000 feet, dated July 2, 2004). The author was also
familiaz with the azea, because he conducted geologic mapping in the azea during the eazly 1980s
for the USGS. The three-dimensional image (stereoscopic) analysis of the geologic features,
using the recently acquired color photographs and the USGS 1968 black-and-white photographs,
proved to be efficient and effective.
•
•
831-032.621 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
