Ammended
ERHIHIT "C"
PRE-MINING AND MINING MAPS
The attached Pre-Mining and 14ining Piap shows the proposed gravel pit
located 0.75 miles south of Highway 50. A reclaimed portion of the Mesa
- County Landfill lies South of the site.
The site of the proposed gravel mining activity is currently vacant of
structures and serves as rangeland. The property will continue to serve
as rangeland after the reclamation of the gravel pit. The property lies
atop a large mesa-like hill. Several small gullies adjoin the site.
There is a pre-existing disturbance where some gravel extraction has
occurred on the site in the past. The permit area's location, being
adjacent to the county landfill and hidden from view, has made it easy
for the public to leave trash and debris on the site in the past. In the
pre-existing disturbance area there are broken pieces of steel-reinforced
concrete culvert, dumped by someone in the past. The asphalt road (29
3/4 Road) which leads into the property has since been closed at the top
of the hill by Mesa County at the request of the property owners.
A survey of the property located in the immediate vicinity reveals
several land uses. The most obvious land use is the site of Mesa
County's Orchard Mesa Landfill which adjoins the subject site to the
South. Even though the predominate land use adjoining the property is
rangeland, it is very limited. The Mesa County Road Department has
previously extracted gravel from a 2D acre site immediately east of the
subject property. The applicants for the new permit are currently
operating a gravel pit immediately east of the Mesa County Road
Department gravel pit. A small single-family development known as Burns
Subdivision, is located about 1,000 feet north of the site.
The land within 200 feet to the north and east of the proposed site is
awned be Charles and Sandra DuCray, principles of both Mountain Region
Corporation and Orchard Mesa Aggregates. The adjacent land to the south
and east of the site is owned by Mesa County, known as the Orchard Mesa
~ /Landfill.
~k~4/
