Once the dike is removed from between the pits access from the
processing area to the south into the pit will be available. Waste sand
• material from the washing process can be placed in lifts in the Sand Pit
area. The pattern of backfilling is shown on the cross-sectional
diagram. As can 6e seen from that diagram, the backfilling will produce
a continuous or stair-step pattern from the Daniel's Sand area to the
back (north side) of the Sand Pit. Because it will be in thin layers
there should be little difficulty with compaction problems and should
produce a base that will be suitable for building foundations. Thereby
the backfilled areas could 6econe buidling sites in the future.
In the event a slight stair-step pattern is used, the height of
each step will be on the order of 8 to 12 feet. This should not produce
any difficulty with future development.
One of the distinct advantages of using this process of backfilling
• is that the final elevations can be easily adjusted to the actual amount
of fill that is placed in the pit. The computer generated cross-
sectional diagrams and the depth of fill shown on those diagrams is
based upon reasonable estimates of the amount of sand that is
anticipated to be processed by Daniel's Sand and the estimated
proportion of that sand which will end up as waste material. If the
estimates are too liberal then the depth of the fill will be less and
the slope grading needed will be proportionately greater. If the
estimates are conservative, then the depth of fill would be greater and
the required slope grading reduced accordingly. In other words, this
plan provides the greatest amount of flexibility in creating a balance
between both grading and backfilling.
The east side of the pit will remain much as it is today. Rut the
west and north sides of the pit will change considerably, especially on
F'AGE ~ OF 8 - EXHIBIT E
