IV.B.2 Mine Service Buildings
Two mine service buildings are located at "D" Portal Area, a Change House and aShop-Warehouse.
The change building contains showers, dressing rooms and associated facilities for the employees. The
shop•warehouse building contains a maintenance shop and storage facilities. The warehouse stores
replacement parts and consumables required for mine operation. A loading dock receives material
where it is transferced to mine vehicles for distribution inside the mine.
The plan area of each building is approximately as follows: change building - 8,000 square feet, and
shop-warehouse - 20,000 square feet. The service buildings were constructed on concrete footings with
floating concrete slabs. The sides and roofs are covered with metal sheathing.
A moveable storage shed is currently (1999) located at the Refuse Disposal Area adjacent to the haul
road in Sub-Area 5-a. It is an all steel building with steel railroad tie floor. Its main function will be the
storage of reclamation equipment and supplies. It also contains a break room for personnel assigned to
the Refuse Area.
When a mine service building is no longer required, the structure will be disassembled and removed.
The concrete foundations will be buried or demolished during the regrading portion of the reclamation
effort.
• IV.B.3 Rock Dust Bin Rock dust bins are located in the "D" Portal Area and at a rock dust dispensing
hole (RDH-1) drilled from the surface to the East Mains (see Map ij. A second rock dust bin facility for
B-Seam workings will be built near a proposed rock dust dispencing hole (RDH-2). See Mpas 138 and
154. The rock dust bins store approximately 150 tons of material. The bins consist of round steel tanks
approximately 30 feet high sealed on the ends to prevent moisture from entering. The legs are bolted to
concrete foundation pedestals. At the end of mine operations, the bins will be disassembled and
removed. The concrete foundations will be covered during reclamation.
IV.8.4 Explosive Storage Explosive storage facilities are located at the "D" Portal area as shown on
Maps 15 and 25. Outside distributors will supply explosives and magazines when needed. The
magazine will be left on site in the explosive storage area during the blasting operation. No explosive
will be stored for an extended amount of time beyond blasting needs. Explosives storage and use is
regulated by the Colorado Division of Mines and the U.S. Department of Treasury.
IV.6.5 Surface Blasting Plan BME complied with all applicable state and federal regulations while
conducting surface blasting activities. Each person who conducts surface blasting will comply with all
state and federal laws in the use of explosives. Blasting operations will be conducted by experienced,
• Mine Permit Renewal #3 (Rev. 8/99) IV-4
