IV.K Signs and Markers
• Before construction activities began metal posts were placed around the perimeter of the permit
boundary. These posts are approximately five feet high and the upper two feet of the posts are painted
red. The posts are placed at intervals of approximately five hundred feet, but always close enough so
that a second perimeter marker is visible from the first.
Surface disturbance boundaries will be marked prior to and in the immediate vicinity of future refuse sub-
areas or other long-term land disturbing activities. The boundaries of disturbance will remain marked
until such time that the extent of the disturbance is complete.
Three mine identification signs were erected along Courity Route 65 at entrances to its mining activities.
The first is located along Route 65 near the East Portal Area. The second identification sign is located
along the north and south sides of Route 65 where ther refuse haul road crosses Route 65. Map 58
shows the crossing of the haul road and Route 65. The third sign is at Halandras landfill area.
The mine identification signs list the mine name, the lame, address and telephone number of the
applicant, pertinent identification numbers, and the local business number of the mine manager. Smaller
signs are located on each side of the road along the road that accesses the mine property.
Although blasting is not an integral part of the mining operation, some blasting may sometimes be
• required. When blasting is conducted, blasting signs are posted in the immediate vicinity of blasting
activities. Further, during periods of blasting, conspicuous signs stating "blaming: Explosives in Use"
are placed at all entrances to surface activities where blasting occurs.
Topsoil and subsoil stockpiles are clearly marked with signs reading "Topsoil" or "Subsoil". These signs
will remain in place as long as the stockpile exists.
No stream buffer zone signs will be placed near the 1Nhite River since no construction activity is
anticipated in the future, and since there is no defined zone because of fluctuating water level due to the
Taylor Draw Reservoir dam.
IV.L Air Pollution Control Plan
Permits for construction and operation were obtained frorn the Colorado Air Quality Control Division.
The air quality monitoring program began in January, 19'80. This program included measuring wind
speed, wind direction, and temperature at the ten-meter level, and measured total suspended
particulates (TSP) located near the proposed portal area. High-volume samples for TSP were taken on
an every fourth day schedule. Two separate TSP samplers were located near the haul road to
determine dust emissions generated by the refuse haul road traffic.
. Rev. TR-53 (03/2001) IV-43
